DTOC Makes Christmas Donations To Local Youth Charities
On Tuesday, November 20th, 2012, the Downtown Optimist Club of Meridian presented five local charities with donations to aid in providing gifts for children at Christmas. The five charities were Wesley House, Cans For Kids, Shop With A Cop, Toys for Tots and The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree project.
Each charity received $1,000 in either funds or toys for a total of $5,000. The donations are dedicated to assisting these organizations in providing Christmas gifts to needy children in our community. All of the organizations work through the Wesley House clearinghouse to ensure that all of the gifts are used as efficiently as possible. The local girls group, The Debs, assist in purchasing toys for The Salvation Army, Toys For Tots and Wesley House. Each of these organizations are currently gathering toys in preparation for giving on Christmas and the partnership helps The Debs gain community services hours which help them reach their goals. It’s a win-win relationship that gets older youth involved and engaged in the community service efforts that go on around our community.
The DTOC has been raising funds to assist youth programs since 1941 and continues to provide assistance area youth whenever and where ever possible.
