DTOC Donates Funds To Meridian Fire Children’s Educational Program

On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Meridian Fire Chief Jason Collier came and spoke to the club about the department’s efforts to educate children about fire safety. The program they are using was create by the National Fire Safety Council, Inc. which is a not-for-profit charitable, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the safety of children. Their mascot is called Firepup and this mascot is used in coloring books, stickers, flyers to promote fire safety. The Meridian Fire Department makes regular visits school children including those in day care where they provide materials, toys and other items which the children can take home to their families. Chief Collier noted that many parents are also being educated as they help their children complete the activities they find in the materials they are given. The MFD even has full-sized Firepup costumes they can use to help drive home their points about fire safety.

The Meridian Fire Department depends upon donations to purchase the materials they need to promote fire safety to children and donations from civic clubs and the general public are encouraged.
